Grant Research Collection

Ouachita Parish Public Library has received Foundation Center Site status as a result of a grant from the Foundation Center. This enables the Main Branch of the library to house Foundation Center materials and other grant writing and grant directory sources for the Northeast Louisiana area.

In addition to the print resources within the library, the Foundation Center also provides a CD-ROM database, FC Search. This database is the most comprehensive resource available on private funding sources. It contains data files on grant makers and their recent grants, more than 47,000 grantmakers. The information in FC Search was compiled mainly from IRS information, as well as publications from corporate annual reports, company press releases, newsletters and programs.

Web Sites

Many excellent resources for nonprofit funding can be found on the Internet. Keep in mind however, while there are over thirty-eight thousand foundations in existence, only about five hundred of them are on the Internet. For this reason, the Internet should be considered a good starting point for help with locating funding, but should not be the primary source. The following list contains reputable web sites to help you with funding sources.

General Sites

Foundation Center Online
http://fdncenter.org

The Foundation Center is an independent national service organization that provides authoritative information on foundation and corporate giving. Their web site contains many useful links to foundation information including a "Grantmaker Information" section with a list of hypertext links to foundations on the web. These foundations can be searched by subject or geographic location. This site also has a form you can print out for keeping up with data on specific foundations of your choosing.

Foundations.org
http://www.foundations.org/page2.html

Similar to Foundation Center Online, this site has links to different foundations online. In addition to private foundations, it also has connections to government and corporate funding.

Action Without Borders
http://www.idealist.org
