Join our team!!! The Ouachita Parish Public Library is located in the beautiful twin cities of Monroe/West Monroe in northeast Louisiana. The library system consists of 6 branches plus a bookmobile, with a 7th branch in the planning stages. Ouachita Parish Public Library serves a population of 146,985 and is proud to be one of the top libraries in the state.

The library offers liberal benefits, including an excellent retirement system, vacations, sick leave and health insurance. Employees may advance to higher positions according to their abilities, qualifications, education, and special interests based upon the needs of the library. After offered employment at the Ouachita Parish Public Library, the applicant agrees to be tested and to successfully pass a drug screening in order to be added to the payroll. Librarian I -   Reference - Main Branch
Full – Time – 40 hours per week
Pay commensurate with education and experience

ANSWERS TO: Head of Reference and Branch Manager

NATURE OF WORK:

Under broad supervision,performs advanced reference and research tasks.
Does not supervise but may direct tasks of Assistants and Associates if requested by supervisor.
                       
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in developing programs and promotional materials
Assist  public in use of all forms of reference resources
Perform advanced research projects as necessary and requested
Teach computer and other designated technology usage and classes  to public and staff
Other duties as required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

            Advanced knowledge of  library practices and procedures
            Extensive knowledge of Reference techniques and sources
            Skilled in computer usage and resources
            Must possess effective oral and written communication skills
            Must possess effective people skills in dealing with staff and the public
           
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in an office environment and requires sitting, standing, stooping,
walking, and lifting of objects weighing less than 25 lbs.; may require lifting objects weighing in excess of 25 lbs. occasionally.  Common abilities of mobility and dexterity.

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited School of Library Science.
Experience preferred.

Computer Technology Associate
Salary:
Commensurate with experience

Answers To: Head of IT

                                                                                               
NATURE OF WORK
Under supervision of the Head of IT, provides a variety of computer related tasks

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Trouble-shoots problems with computer software and equipment, i.e., printing, downloading files, etc.
Installs or upgrades basic software unique to the library, and general PC Setup
Assists staff with compute problems and training at the direction of the Head of IT
Helps in trouble-shooting all systems add-on products.
Maintains PCs in all branches
Maintains and troubleshoots network equipment.
Loads and maintains software on servers and storage devices
Maintains Active Directory, Cisco Firewall, Linix systems. DNS, Spiceworks ticketing system, virtual servers, Microsoft Exchange, Ninite software distribution system, and other systems.
Assists or plans special computer projects with the head of IT when needed.
Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent working knowledge of Windows and Unix based computers and installation of those systems
Extensive knowledge of Active Directory
Extensive knowledge of Server Virtualization
Extensive working knowledge of cable and wireless networking necessary.
Knowledge of network hardware
Extensive knowledge of Windows-based computers and installation of software.
Extensive knowledge of Windows, all current versions.
Excellent knowledge of DB management systems such as Access.
Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP Networking.
Excellent knowledge of PC hardware, including system BIOS, CMOS, various add-on cards, and peripherals.
Excellent knowledge of virus detection and removal tools.
Experience with PCs in a network environment.
Ability and willingness to learn the library automation environment.
Effective written and oral communication skills.

Ability to research computer problems and needs and offer solutions.
Ability to complete project tasks on time.
Ability to be on-call, in rotation, for evening and weekend emergencies.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information handled.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Experience with PCs and servers in the networked environment
Familiarity with RFID systems in general
Basic scripting skills
Programming experience preferred (HTML, PHP, Java, etc.)
Willingness to learn all OPPL library systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work requires sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, walking and lifting of objects weighing less than 30 lbs.
May require lifting objects weighing in excess of 30 lbs. occasionally.
Ability to assist in setting up, tearing down, moving computer equipment, and boxing equipment.
Ability to drive between branch locations, mileage to be reimbursed.
Abilities such as mobility and dexterity with hands, arms, fingers, and sight are required.
Ability to perform all physical activities associated with this job.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in a computer related field + 5 yrs related experience or
Associates Degree in computer related subject + 8 yrs related experience or
Associates Degree + 10 yrs. documented work in the computer field

Full time – 40 hours per week
Beginning hourly rate: $10.1299 commensurate with experience and education

ANSWERS TO: Head of Technical Services

NATURE OF WORK:
            Under broad supervision, order and account for library materials and supplies
           
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
            Process orders for library materials and office supplies
            Process and reconcile invoices and packing lists for library materials and supplies
            Monitor materials budget
            Distribute supplies to branches and storeroom
            Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
            Knowledge and operations of standard office equipment
            Computer usage and working knowledge of specified software programs
            Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
            Appropriate oral and written communication skills
            Ability to deal effectively and courteously with co-workers, public and vendors
            Proficient in total purchasing process; governmental purchasing experience preferred
