Join our team!!! The Ouachita Parish Public Library is located in the beautiful twin cities of Monroe/West Monroe in northeast Louisiana. The library system consists of 6 branches plus a bookmobile, with a 7th branch in the planning stages. Ouachita Parish Public Library serves a population of 146,985 and is proud to be one of the top libraries in the state.

The library offers liberal benefits, including an excellent retirement system, vacations, sick leave and health insurance. Employees may advance to higher positions according to their abilities, qualifications, education, and special interests based upon the needs of the library. After offered employment at the Ouachita Parish Public Library, the applicant agrees to be tested and to successfully pass a drug screening in order to be added to the payroll. Janitor – Ouachita Valley Branch – Assistant I

Full time – 40 hours per week, $8.1402 per hour

Answers to: Operations Coordinator
                        Branch Manager
General:
                Unless otherwise specified, the follow list of duties will be done daily and in all department where applicable.

Nature of Work: 
                To maintain the interior of the building in a clean and sanitary manner

Essential duties and Responsibilities:
                Empty waste baskets, replace liners and dispose of waste into dumpsters
                Dust all furniture
                Dust all exposed filing cabinets, bookcases and shelves
                Clean and sanitize all telephones
                Clean and sanitize desk tops
                Clean Entrance door glass – inside and out – and other doors with glass
                Spot clean spills and stains on carpet
                Dust and wet mop all foyers

                                Vacuum Schedule
                                                Vacuum high traffic areas daily
                                                Stack areas - every other  day
                                                Children’s department  -very other day
                                                Administrative offices   - weekly
                                               

                                Restrooms – Staff and Public
Clean, sanitize  and polish all fixtures and metal trim, including counters, commodes, urinals and sinks
Clean all glass and mirrors
Empty all containers and disposals and replace liners
Empty and sanitize interior of sanitary napkin containers
Spot clean walls, doors and partitions including removal of graffiti
Refill all dispensers to normal levels – paper goods, soap, etc
Sweep, damp mop and sanitize floors

                                Eating areas/Break room  (Public and Staff)
                                                Damp clean and sanitize tabletops, seats and chair backs
                                                Damp clean pedestals and legs of tables and chairs
                                                Spot clean doors, door frames, light switches, etc
                                                Sweep and damp mop a minimum of twice a week

                Weekly Duties
                                General
                                                Dust bookshelves where empty
                                                Low dust all horizontal surfaces below 36” including baseboard
                                                Dust window ledges
                                                Vacuum furniture
                                                Spot clean furniture and metal or wood parts of chairs
                                                Wash trash cans
                                                Wet mop floors

                               
Work Room
                Sweep and mop the floors
                Dust the furniture and cabinets
               
Eating areas
                                                All points covered under general
                                                Dust all surfaces
                                                Wipe down all counter tops, cabinets and appliances

Responsible for westside branches if special projects occur.  This is on an as needed basis when emergency or unforeseen projects occur.  Should have dependable transportation to travel to westside branches if the need arises.

                                               
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have a good working knowledge of janitorial operations, equipment and supplies used in janitorial maintenance. 
Must have the ability to understand oral and written instructions
Must have the ability to work effectively with co-workers
               
Physical Requirements:
Work is performed inside with occasional outside duties as required to perform janitor duties.  Requires standing, walking, climbing, stooping and lifting of items 25 lbs. and occasionally in excess of 25 lbs.  Common abilities of mobility and dexterity.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
                High School Diploma or Equivalent

Library Assistant I - Circulation – Sterlington Memorial Branch
Part time – hourly salary - $8.1402

                                         

Answers to: Branch Manager

            Nature of Work:
            Responsible for providing "customer service" to the public and assisting in the
            Children’s area as needed
           
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
            All duties of Page in addition to:
            Checking in/out materials
            Assist patrons in locating materials
            Registering patrons
            Collecting fines and other library related fees
            Place holds on materials for patrons
            Answer phones
            Identify and send in materials needing cleaning and repair
            Assist with children’s programs and preparation as needed and assigned
            Other duties as requested

            Cross train  with other positions in the branch as determined by Management

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
            Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
            Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public
            "Frontline" public service skills
            Basic computer skills
            Ability to operate standard office equipment including credit card machines

Physical Requirements:
            Work is performed in an office environment and requires sitting, standing and stooping walking and lifting of objects weighing less than 25 lbs.; may require lifting
             objects weighing in excess of 25 lbs. occasionally.
            Common abilities such as mobility and dexterity

Required Qualifications:
            High school diploma or equivalent

Responsible for providing “customer service” to the public

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
            Checking in /out materials
            Registering patrons
            Collecting fines and other library related fees
            Place holds on materials for patrons
            Answer telephones
            Identify and send materials to Technical Services for cleaning and repair
            Other duties as requested

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
            Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
            Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public
            “Frontline” public service skills
Basic computer skills, using Windows environment

Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in an office environment and requires sitting, standing and stooping, walking and lifting of objects weighing less than 25 lbs.; may require lifting objects weighing in excess of 25 lbs. occasionally.

Answers to: Public Service Branch Administrator, and the Director

Nature of Work:
            Overview, coordinate, organize and direct to operations of a larger branch library

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
            Select, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate staff
            Promote programs in all departments, children's, young adult, adult
            Ensure the public served is assisted in a timely and courteous manner
            Know the community served and assess the collection and program needs of
                        that community
            Ensure library policies and procedures are followed
            Account for funds received and expended
            Prepare reports of use and activities
            Continually monitor building and grounds
            Make the administration aware of needs for the branch
            Serve on internal committees as required
            Responsible for collection development for the branch
            Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
            Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of library management
            Skill in the use of computers and other office equipment
            Supervisory, coaching and management skills
            Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
            Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
                        and the public

Physical Requirements:
            Work is performed in office environment and requires sitting, standing, stooping,
                        walking and lifting of objects weighing less than 25 lbs.; may require lifting
                        objects weighing in excess of 25 lbs. occasionally. 
            Common abilities such as mobility and dexterity

Required Qualifications:
            Masters Degree in Library Science and 4 years of library experience with at least
                        2 years of supervisory experience
