Join our team!!! The Ouachita Parish Public Library is located in the beautiful twin cities of Monroe/West Monroe in northeast Louisiana. The library system consists of 6 branches plus a bookmobile, with a 7th branch in the planning stages. Ouachita Parish Public Library serves a population of 146,985 and is proud to be one of the top libraries in the state.

The library offers liberal benefits, including an excellent retirement system, vacations, sick leave and health insurance. Employees may advance to higher positions according to their abilities, qualifications, education, and special interests based upon the needs of the library. After offered employment at the Ouachita Parish Public Library, the applicant agrees to be tested and to successfully pass a drug screening in order to be added to the payroll. ANSWERS TO: Branch Head
NATURE OF WORK:
Under direct supervision, employee is responsible for the shelving and retrieving of books and other materials
.  
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sort and shelves books according to Dewey decimal System
Check shelves for correct arrangement of books
Empty book drop
 Clear tables of books and magazines
Place new periodical in display and file and store old periodicals
               Retrieve books and periodical from shelves
                Clean and inspect av material
               Assist with opening/closing of building
               Other duties as required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Sort and file alphabetically and numerically
Ability to follow simple oral & written instructions
Ability to perform light physical tasks
Positive attitude toward public service
Self motivated

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring stooping, climbing, or walking.  Recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing less than 25 lbs and may require occasional lifting of objects weighing more than 25lbs.  Common abilities such as mobility and dexterity.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Sixteen years of age and completion of tenth grade of high school

Library Assistant II - Circulation/YA - Anna Meyer Branch

Part-time 20-25 hours per week
$8.7609 per hour
                         
Answers to: Branch Manager or Department Head

Nature of Work:
            Responsible for providing customer service to the public
            Some work with tweens and young adults
           
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
            Checking in/out materials
            Registering patrons
            Collecting fines and other library related fees
            Place holds on materials for patrons
            Answer phones
            Identify and send in materials needing cleaning and repair
            Prepare, promote and  present programs for tweens and young adults.
            Assist tweens and young adults with locating materials and reader’s advisory
            Other duties as requested

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
            Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
            Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public
            Frontline public service skills
            Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements:
            Work is performed in an office environment and requires sitting, standing and             stooping, walking and lifting of objects weighing less than 25 lbs.; may require             lifting objects weighing in excess of 25 lbs. occasionally.
            Common abilities such as mobility and dexterity

Required Qualifications:
            High school diploma or equivalent
            Some experience working with young people preferred

Branch Manager - Main Branch
Pay commensurate with education and experience

            ANSWERS TO : Assistant Director or Branch Administrator
                              Director

            NATURE OF WORK:
                       Overview, coordinate, organize and direct operations of a larger branch                        library. Involves professional management skills.

            ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
                        Select, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate circulation and reference                         staff
                        Promote programs in all departments
                        Prepare and produce adult and senior programs a minimum of one per                         month: more preferred
                        Seek grant funding for special programs
                        Ensure the public served is assisted in a timely and courteous manner
                        Know the community served and assess the collection and program                         needs of that community
                        Ensure library policies and procedures are followed
                        Account for funds received and expended
                        Prepare reports of use and activities
                        Prepare and justify staff payroll
                        Continually monitor building and grounds
                        Make the administration aware of needs of the branch
                        Serve on internal committees as required
                        Responsible for collection development for the branch
                        Other duties as requested

            REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
                        Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of library                         management
                        Skill in the use of computers and other office equipment
                        Supervisory, coaching and management skills
                        Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Library Assistant I – Building & Grounds Aide
40 hours per week – Beginning hourly rate $8.1402

Answers to:  Operations Coordinator

Nature of Work:
          Under general supervision, responsible for maintaining clean and neat facilities, prepares   
          designated areas for programs and activities as directed and may perform minor
           maintenance functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
            Disposal of exterior waste and debris at all branch facilities
            Fill vending machines
            Set-up tables and chairs for specific programs
            Assist in grounds maintenance at all branches
            Keep all departments supplied with copier paper.
            Assist with loading and unloading of freight as needed
            Assist with transport of materials between branches as needed
            Assist with keeping supply closets stocked
            Assist with moving of furniture as needed
            Perform janitorial duties when needed in absence of regular janitor.
            Make trips to courthouse for Business Office
            Dispose of old newspapers
            Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
            Must be able to function as a team with other maintenance and building staff under
                        supervision of Operations Coordinator
            Must have a valid driver's license or obtain license within 30 days of employment
(a driving record check will be performed on all employees driving Library vehicles)
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions
            Needs enough initiative to see things that need to be done without being told
            Basic knowledge of using basic tools for doing small repair/maintenance tasks

Physical Requirements:
            Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and exposure is to a variety of
            weather conditions and temperatures.
            Work requires considerable and strenuous standing, stooping, climbing, walking and
            lifting objects in excess of 74 lbs.
            Work areas are sometimes difficult or dangerous access

Required Qualifications:
            High school diploma or GED
