Join our team!!! The Ouachita Parish Public Library is located in the beautiful twin cities of Monroe/West Monroe in northeast Louisiana. The library system consists of 6 branches plus a bookmobile, with a 7th branch in the planning stages. Ouachita Parish Public Library serves a population of 146,985 and is proud to be one of the top libraries in the state.

The library offers liberal benefits, including an excellent retirement system, vacations, sick leave and health insurance. Employees may advance to higher positions according to their abilities, qualifications, education, and special interests based upon the needs of the library. After offered employment at the Ouachita Parish Public Library, the applicant agrees to be tested and to successfully pass a drug screening in order to be added to the payroll. The screening will be done by an independent laboratory with the cost to be covered by the library. Ouachita Parish Public Library is an equal opportunity employer.

Library Assistant I – Floater
Starting Hourly Wage: $8.1402 per hour       
                                               
Answers to: Operations Coordinator                 
                     Branch Manager

Nature of Work:
            Serves as System substitute.  Responsible for providing "customer service" to the public
            in all branches of the Ouachita Parish Public Library.
           
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
            Checking in/out materials
            Registering patrons
            Collecting fines and other library related charges
            Place holds on materials for patrons
            Answer telephones
            Identify and send in materials for cleaning and repair
            Assist patrons in basic reference and other areas of the library
            General duties of any department where a substitute may be needed on a short term basis
           
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
            Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
            Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public
            Work effectively in automated system used for library circulation
           

Physical Requirements:
            Work is performed in office environment and requires sitting, standing, stooping,
                        walking and lifting of objects weighing less than 25 lbs.; may require lifting
                        objects in excess of 25 lbs. occasionally.
            Common abilities such as mobility and dexterity

Librarian I -   Reference - Main Branch
Full – Time – 40 hours per week.
Pay commensurate with education and experience


ANSWERS TO:  Head of Reference
                          Branch Manager

NATURE OF WORK:
            Under broad supervision, performs advanced reference and research tasks. Does not supervise but may direct tasks of Assistants and Associates if requested by supervisor.
                       
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in developing programs and promotional materials
Assist  public in use of all forms of reference resources
Perform advanced research projects as necessary and requested
Teach computer and other designated technology usage and classes  to public and staff
            Other duties as required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
            Advanced knowledge of  library practices and procedures
            Extensive knowledge of Reference techniques and sources
            Skilled in computer usage and resources
            Must possess effective oral and written communication skills
            Must possess effective people skills in dealing with staff and the public
           
Physical Requirements:
            Work is performed in an office environment and requires sitting, standing, stooping,
            walking, and lifting of objects weighing less than 25 lbs.; may require lifting
            objects weighing in excess of 25 lbs. occasionally.  Common abilities of
            mobility and dexterity.

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
            Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited School of Library Science.

NATURE OF WORK:
            Under broad supervision, order and account for library materials and supplies
           
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
            Process orders for library materials and office supplies
            Process and reconcile invoices and packing lists for library materials and supplies
            Monitor materials budget
            Distribute supplies to branches and storeroom
            Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
            Knowledge and operations of standard office equipment
            Computer usage and working knowledge of specified software programs
            Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
            Appropriate oral and written communication skills
            Ability to deal effectively and courteously with co-workers, public and vendors
            Proficient in total purchasing process; governmental purchasing experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
            Work is performed in office environment and requires sitting, standing, stooping,

Computer Technician - IT Department - Main Branch
Full Time - 40 hours per week.
Salary: Commensurate with experience

Answers To: Head of IT or Technology Associate

Nature of Work: Under the supervision of the Head of IT or Technology Associate, provides a variety of computer related tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintains all Windows based PCs
Installs software programs on staff computers.
Assists staff with computer related problems and training.

Troubleshoots PC software, hardware, and peripherals.
Upgrades OS, patches, and software, on all staff computers at all branches using Active Directory or other push software.
Assists staff with PC and software use.
Assists or plans special computer projects with IT staff when needed.
Maintains computer inventory records and the software to do so.
Assists maintaining computer supplies.
Installs new staff workstations to the network.
Assists maintenance of NAS devices.
Monitors security camera systems.
Maintains the IT ticket system - Spiceworks.
Assists with all servers, physical and virtual.
Take evening and weekend on-call duties in rotation.
Any other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent knowledge of Windows Active Directory
Extensive knowledge of Windows-based computers and installation of software.
Extensive knowledge of current Windows OS.
Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP Networking.
Excellent knowledge of PC hardware, including system BIOS, CMOS, various add-on cards, and peripherals.
Excellent knowledge of virus detection and removal tools.
Experience with PCs in a network environment.
Good Knowledge of virtualizing, the virtualized environment, and VMware VSphere.
Good knowledge of DB management systems such as Access.
Good understanding of virtual desktop and cloud computing.
Ability and willingness to learn the library automation environment.
Ability and willingness to learn the hardware and software currently being used, and to suggest new products.
Ability to research computer problems and needs and offer solutions.

Ability to complete project tasks on time.
Ability to be on-call, in rotation, for evening and weekend emergencies.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information handled.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
Ability to perform tasks under occasional pressure.
Effective written and oral communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

Work requires sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, walking and lifting of objects weighing less than 30 lbs.
 May require lifting objects weighing in excess of 30 lbs. occasionally.
 Ability to assist in setting up, tearing down, moving computer equipment, and boxing equipment.
Ability to drive between branch locations, mileage to be reimbursed.
Abilities such as mobility and dexterity with hands, arms, fingers, and sight are required.
Ability to perform all physical activities associated with this job.

Desired Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in computer-related field + 2 yrs documented experience or
High School Diploma + 2 yrs. college or technical school, + 5 yrs. computer experience or
High School Diploma, + 10 years documented work in computer field.

Other Pertinent Information:
Programming skills are a plus and will be taken into consideration.
Computer related certifications will be taken into consideration.
Previous employment information and references must accompany application and will be checked.
Applicant may be required to take a test to determine skills.
Applicant must have their own vehicle to drive between branches; mileage will be reimbursed with proper logging.
Late hours may occasionally be required for certain upgrades and special projects.

Part-time, 20 hours per week  $7.2862 per hour

ANSWERS TO: Head Circulation /Branch Head

NATURE OF WORK:
Under direct supervision, employee is responsible for the shelving and retrieving of books and other materials.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sort and shelves books according to Dewey decimal System
Check shelves for correct arrangement of books
Empty book drop
 Clear tables of books and magazines
Place new periodical in display and file and store old periodicals
               Retrieve books and periodical from shelves
                Clean and inspect av material
               Assist with opening/closing of building
               Other duties as required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Sort and file alphabetically and numerically
Ability to follow simple oral & written instructions
Ability to perform light physical tasks
Positive attitude toward public service
Self motivated

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring     stooping, climbing, or walking.  Recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing less than 25 lbs and may require occasional lifting of objects weighing more than 25lbs.  Common abilities such as mobility and dexterity.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Sixteen years of age and completion of tenth grade of high school
